TSF's Activating Shakespeare workshop involves the Roadshow Acting Company leading your students in on-your-feet
exercises and games designed to bring Shakespeare’s language to life.
This can be booked in conjunction with a Roadshow performance or by itself. Staff members can come to your school or students can visit our facility in Kilgore, Texas.
The TSF Roadshow is sponsored in part by Shakespeare in American Communities, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. Additional program support comes from a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and grant funding from the Texas Commission on the Arts.

ROADSHOW FAQ
What is the cost for a performance?
Performances are $1,200 each. If you book multiple performances over multiple days, we are happy to work with presenters on discounted rates. Please see below on more information on discounted rates.
In addition to booking fees, there is a mileage fee of $0.65 per mile and per diem fees for full-day bookings.
How long are the performances?
We cut the plays to run right around an hour in length. The hope is that this will work more easily into daily schedules for schools, who are the target audience for this program.
Do you offer public performances?
Yes! We do many performances for the general public throughout our tour. All pricing and scheduling remain the same for these bookings.
What are the technical requirements?
The Roadshow is designed to accommodate as many spaces as possible. We perform in a “Globe Theatre” style, meaning there are no internal light cues and all sound effects and music and made live by our company of actors. All that we ask for is the following:
-
A basic wash of lights that ensure the actors can be well seen by the audience
-
A performance space that does not require and sound amplification since our company does not travel with microphones or speakers. If sound amplification is required, we ask that this be provided by the hosting venue.
Is there any way to get a discount on performance fees?
Yes! There are two resources we recommend to all presenters:
-
The Texas Touring Roster through Texas Commission on the Arts. The TSF Roadshow is a member of this roster which allows presenters to apply for grants that cover up to 50% of our booking fees.
-
Thanks to a generous grant from the T.L.L. Temple Foundation, we are able to offer 15 free performances to schools in Rusk and Panola Counties. To arrange one of these performances, contact Matthew Simpson at Msimpson@texasshakespeare.com
Are there workshops available?
Yes, workshops can be added to any performance or booked independent of a performance. If booking a workshop alone, the cost is $500. If booking with a performance, the cost is $350. Workshop last about one hour and work best with a group of 50 or fewer students. Larger groups can be accommodated with advance notice.
How much space do you require?
We ask for a playing area that is 25 ft. deep by 25 ft. wide with at least 14 ft. of overhead clearance. We can usually accommodate to spaces smaller than this, but would need to discuss this in more detail.
How long does it take your company to load in and loout?
We usually arrive at a venue 75 minutes before a show starts. Our load in and set up time is usually around 30 minutes, but we like to leave plenty of extra time in case there are obstacles that arise. We can usually load out of a space in about 30 minutes.
