SCENIC DEPARTMENT


Technical Director
May 13 arrive /June 30 depart

$5,500 stipend / up to $300 travel / private dorm housing / 11 meals a week
Minimum requirements: A high level of organization, time management, and communication skills are a must, in addition a positive attitude, and a desire to teach. Strong woodworking, rigging, welding, and drafting skills with either AutoCad or Vectorworks.  Ability to drive a box truck or pickup truck with a 14’ trailer. The ideal candidate will be able to work at heights of at least 16’ and be able to lift 50 pounds. Preference will be given to candidates in an MFA program or with at least 2 years of summer stock and professional experience.

Responsible for:
The Technical Director will work closely with the Scenic Designer, Assistant Technical Director, Scenic Charge, Lighting Supervisor, and Sound Engineer to realize the season’s shows. 
Duties include, but are not limited to estimating show costs and working with the Assistant Technical Director to supervise and execute the build of the four Mainstage Productions. Duties also include:

  • Drafting build documents

  • Creating detailed build schedules

  • Managing scenic budgets

  • Ordering materials 

  • Facility and crew safety

  • Production meeting attendance

  • Coordinating with department heads regarding all aspects of the set build, load ins, and changeovers. 

 

Assistant Technical Director- position filled

May 13 arrive /July 30 depart
$5,500 stipend / up to $300 travel / private dorm housing / 11 meals a week

Minimum Requirements:  Detailed knowledge of  shop math, advanced woodworking, welding, and rigging; ability to operate a single purchase fly system, ability to routinely lift at least 50 pounds, spend extended periods of time on your feet, and to work a varied schedule and at heights above 25'.  Ideal candidate should feel comfortable driving a truck and 16’ trailer, be self-motivated, safety conscious, with at least two years of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of educational and other experience in a supervisory capacity.  Experience with AutoCad a plus.

Responsible for:

  • Partnering with the Technical Director on all aspects of production for the TSF season

  • Assisting the TD in the overall supervision of the scene shop and the build of all scenic elements and set props for the four-show repertory season, children's show, and auxiliary shows as needed

  • Overseeing changeovers

  • Participating in opening night discussions    

  • Assisting with company strike 

     

Scene Shop Supervisor

May 13 arrive /July 30 depart
$5,500 / up to $300 travel / single occupancy dorm housing / 11 meals a week

Minimum Requirements: A high level of organization, time management, and communication skills are a must, in addition a positive attitude, and a desire to teach. Strong woodworking skills, welding skills, and ability to read working drawings.  Ability to drive a box truck or pickup truck with a 14’ trailer. The ideal candidate will be able to work at heights of at least 16’ and be able to lift 50 pounds.  Preference will be given to candidates with at least 2 years of professional scene shop experience with management experience a plus.

Responsible for:

● Assigning drafting from the TD Office
● Clarifying drafting or answering carpentry questions
● Maintaining an up to date and accurate inventory of supplies
● Tool repair and maintenance
● Coordinating scenery transport to the theatre from the shop
● Constructing scenery
● Serve as a second lead in changeovers

 

Scenic Carpenters (5)- Build and Changeover Crew

May 13 arrive /July 30 depart
$4,500 stipend / up to $300 travel / double occupancy dorm housing /
11 meals a week

Minimum Requirements:  Experience with various scenic construction techniques and materials; strong woodworking skills; proficiency with time management; ability to routinely lift at least 50 pounds, spend extended periods of time on your feet, work a varied schedule, and to work at heights above 25'.

Responsible for:

  • Building all scenic elements for the four-show rotating repertory season and children's show

  • Serving on changeover crew (no run crew assignments)

  • Assisting with company strike 

Changeover Crew (4)

June 3 arrive /July 30 depart
$3,000 stipend / up to $300 travel / double occupancy dorm housing /
11 meals a week

Minimum Requirements:  Experience with various scenic construction techniques and materials; strong woodworking skills; proficiency with time management; ability to routinely lift at least 50 pounds, spend extended periods of time on your feet, work a varied schedule, and to work at heights above 25'.

Responsible for:

  • Serving on the changeover crew in a four-show rotating repertory season and children's show

  • Serving on one run crew for the musical, Kiss Me, Kate

  • Assisting with company strike

PAINT DEPARTMENT

 

Scenic Charge Artist

May 13 arrive / June 30 depart 
$4
,000 stipend / up to $300 travel / private dorm housing / 11 meals a week

Minimum Requirements: Experience in creating samples for approval by Scenic Designer, mixing color, paint mixing, and scenic treatments including, but not limited to, faux finish, carving, texturing, ageing, distressing, and general working ability in both latex and scenic paint. The candidate should also have experience in reading blueprints and color elevations, budget management, scheduling, and be comfortable working at heights above 16'. Ideal candidate should be self-motivated, safety conscious, with at least three years of professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Responsible for:

  • Maintaining paint stock, budget, and purchasing.

  • All the painting of scenic elements for the four-show rotating repertory season and a children’s show.

  • Working closely with the Scenic Designer and Technical Director on all scenic painting projects. 

  • Participating in opening night discussions
     

Assistant Charge Artist

May 15 arrive / June 30 depart 
$3,500 stipend / up to $300 travel / double occupancy dorm housing / 11 meals a week

Minimum Requirements: Experience in scenic treatments including, but not limited to, faux finish, carving, texturing, aging, distressing, and general working ability in both latex and scenic paint. The candidate should also have experience in reading blueprints and color elevations and be comfortable working at heights above 16'. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated and safety conscious, with at least two years of professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Responsible for:

  • Assisting the Scenic Charge Artist on all painting duties for the four-show rotating repertory season.

  • Assisting the Scenic Charge Artist in maintaining paint stock and necessary departmental purchasing.

  • Assisting the Scenic Charge Artist in supervising the paint department.

  • Participating in opening night discussions.

 

Scenic Artist (2)

May 15 arrive / July 30 depart
$3,000 stipend / up to $300 travel / double occupancy dorm housing / 11 meals a week

Minimum Requirements: Experience in scenic treatments including, but not limited to, faux finish, carving, texturing, aging, distressing, and general working ability in both latex and scenic paint. The candidate should also have some experience in reading blueprints and color elevations and be comfortable working at heights above 16'. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated and safety conscious, with at least one year of professional experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Responsible for:

  • Assisting the Scenic Charge and Assistant Scenic Charge with all painting duties for the four-show rotating repertory season, children's show, and auxiliary shows as needed

  • Assist in maintaining painted elements during the run of the shows

  • Serve on the changeover crew (no run crew assignments)

  • Maintain paint treatments throughout changeovers

  • Assisting with company strike
