The small scene shop is located behind the performance space and is adequately supplied. Due to the large amount of scenery needed fir the six-show season most of the the build takes place on stage and outside on the patio next to the loading dock.
The work schedule during the build is usually from 9:00 AM until 10:00 PM with an 1 1/2 hour breaks for lunch and dinner, Tuesday through Sunday. The schedule is full and fast-paced with a season that includes The Comedy of Errors, The Foreigner, The Winter’s Tale, Camelot, and a children’s show.
The scenic crew arrives on Monday, May 13th (with the remaining departments arriving on May 18th) with the first tech scheduled on June 12th. With four consecutive opening nights following on June 27, 28, 29, and 30. The children show build will begin once the repertory season has opened.
Scenic Carpenters are assigned to at least two, but no more than three, of the shows as scenic running crew. Scenic Carpenters also serve on the change-over crew. During the performances, Thursday through Sunday, the Festival have change-overs after the matinee and evening performances.
Although there is an immense amount of work that is required for the season TSF is dedicated to providing an environment that is both nurturing and humane and one that creates a spirit of trust, collaboration and mutual respect.
The scenic department consist of the Scenic Designer, the Technical Director, the scenic artist, master carpenter, six carpenters, and two painting interns.
The Festival is seeking a hard-working, responsible, mature, and talented ensemble of theatre artists for a season of summer repertory.
Scenic / Properties Designer is responsible for designing all set and properties elements for a five-show repertory season and oversee the properties department in the design acquisition and/or implementation of all properties. The scenic design will supply all drawings and renderings for the five design.
Technical Director is responsible for the construction, mounting, rigging, and maintaining of all scenic pieces, and such set props that are needed, for a six-show season. The Technical Director will also supply working drawings for all scenic elements and is responsible for the overall supervision for the scenic department and is responsible for the organization and supervision of the scenic running and change-over crews.
Master Carpenter is responsible for the build of all scenic elements, and such set props that are needed, for a six-show season. Will assist in the overall supervision of the scene shop. During the run of the shows the Master Carpenter will serve on both the scenic running and change-over crew.
Scenic Carpenter is responsible for building all scenic elements, and such set props that are needed, for a six-show season. Will also serve on the scenic running and change-over crew.
The Festival does not have a painting studio space. The painting for the season takes place on stage, in the small scene shop, and on a patio area outside the loading dock area of the theatre. As all the Festival Budgets the painting budget is small and is included in the scenery budget for the season.
The scenic artist is on a six-week contract and is responsible for meeting the painting needs for the four show repertory of The Comedy of Errors, The Foreigner, The Winter’s Tale, and Camelot. The two painting interns, along with the assistance of the children’s show scenic designer, is responsible for the children’s show. The children’s show begins production after the repertory season have opened and perform from July 17-27, Tuesday through Saturday.
The scenic painting interns will be responsible for daily painting maintenance of all the shows.
Scenic Artist is responsible for all the painting of scenic elements for the five-show season and will work closely with the Scenic Designer and Technical Director on all scenic painting projects.
Scene Painting Interns will serve as Technical Interns assigned primarily to the scene painting department and will assist on all scenic painting duties as required. When not needed in the scene painting area the interns will be assigned to the properties department. During the production run will maintain painting elements and serve on properties running and change-over crew.
Technical crews also serve as Changeover Crew members for the season. Between the matinee and evening performances changeovers are open to the public and narrated by a TSF Staff Member.
